In the fashion world, few events successfully represent not only the design, but the talented designers involved in bringing these beautiful pieces to life. From avant-garde to cinematic chic, Vogue World bridges the gap between film and fashion, recreating iconic looks from the most timeless films in pop culture.
Vogue World, a worldwide fashion fundraiser organized by Condé Nast and Met Gala chair Anna Wintour, was held Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
This event was started to encourage artistry and culture through the fashion industry. Vogue World started its debut in New York on September 12, raising money for up and coming designers by donating all proceeds to the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Though the show is primarily known for spotlighting talented designers in general, this year’s show puts a spotlight on an understated division, Hollywood’s film and costume industry.
“Hollywood is the first choice for representation since it is the mecca of the film industry and where some of the best films are produced,” John Champe High School volunteer Kyisha Parker said, “without the talented Fashion and Costume designers to bring the visions of those stories to life, we wouldn’t have the great films we have today.”
One of Hollywood’s iconic film studios, Paramount Studios is known for mega box-office hit productions like “Titanic” and “Top Gun: Maverick”. The event had prominent actors and supermodels walking the runway side by side, along with performances by Doja Cat and Gracie Abrams, truly uniting the two industries through artistic expression. Also collaborating with award winning designers Ruth E. Carter, Colleen Atwood, and Jacqueline West. Recreating classic feature costumes, each immersing the audience into a different era of filmography.
“Fashion is so important in filmography because it quickly grabs the attention of the audience,” sophomore Olivia Lee said, “it can also influence their own personal fashion choices.”
Whether it’s the traditional but Afro-futuristic military style designs seen in “Black Panther,” or the retro, vibrant and dreamy pink-centered outfits in “Barbie”, costume design is crucial to the lasting effect on the audience after leaving the theater. Fashion sets the tone for a film and can easily communicate the emotion in a particular scene. In “The Devil Wears Prada,” the main protagonist starts off in plain-muted colors and uncoordinated clothing. However, once she starts to embrace her career, she finds herself wearing more expensive and designer-based outfits. Demonstrating the shift from humble beginnings to a bold new lifestyle. Similar to these films, Vogue World 2025 blurs the line between clothing and costume, showcasing the effect of Hollywood on the modern world. Vogue has recently officially announced that their next show will be held in Milan, Italy on September 22, 2026.
“Costumes and design are its own character in film and tv and deserve celebration, ” Parker said, “no one can highlight that better than Vogue.”
