School clubs play a vital role in shaping student life beyond the classroom. From building leadership skills to creating strong communities, these organisations give students opportunities to grow, connect, and make an impact. This spotlight highlights three clubs that exemplify student involvement and leadership: Pickleball Club, National Honor Society (NHS), and DECA.
Pickleball Club: Building Community Through Sport
Pickleball Club was founded to create a fun, inclusive space where students of all experience levels can stay active and connect with others. The club emphasizes participation, teamwork, and enjoyment over competition, making it a welcoming environment for both beginners and experienced players.
Founders / Presidents: Jill Dang & Sunny Kondeti
Jill Dang and Sunny Kodeti founded Pickleball Club to bring students together through one of the fastest-growing sports. Through starting and leading the club, they have developed leadership skills while fostering a positive, stress-free environment for members.

“We wanted to create a space where people could have fun, be active, and feel welcome no matter their skill level,” co-founder Jill Dang said. “Pickleball brings people together, and seeing members enjoy the game and make new friends has been the most rewarding part,” co-founder Sunny Kodeti said.
Pickleball Club has had a strong impact on student wellness by encouraging physical activity and providing a social outlet after school. Members often describe the club as a place to relax, meet new people, and try something new without pressure.
“After a long school day, Pickleball Club is a great way to unwind and connect with others,” member Mahmoud Khatab said. “It doesn’t feel competitive or stressful, just a fun environment where everyone feels included.”
How to get involved: Pickleball Club is open to all students, no experience required. Just show up and play.
National Honor Society: Leading Through Service
The National Honor Society (NHS) recognises students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. NHS members are committed not only to academic success but also to giving back to their school and community.
Officer Team:
- President: Arushi Raghavendra
- Vice President: Sowrish Ravigopal
- Secretary: Yashica Mahajan
- Treasurer: Sharvesh Yogaraj
- Historian: Aleena Ahmed
Under this leadership team, NHS organises a variety of service initiatives, including tutoring programs, fundraisers, and school-wide volunteer efforts. Officers and members alike share that NHS has helped them grow as leaders while teaching the importance of responsibility and community involvement.
“NHS has taught us that leadership is about serving others and making a real difference in our community,” President Arushi Raghavendra said. “Through NHS, we’ve learned how teamwork and dedication can turn small efforts into meaningful impact,” Vice President Sowrish Ravigopal said.
The impact of NHS extends beyond individual members, as the club plays a key role in supporting both the school and the surrounding community through meaningful service projects.
“Being part of NHS has pushed me to step outside my comfort zone and take initiative,” said NHS member Natalie Alcancia. “It’s rewarding to know that the work we do genuinely helps others and strengthens our school community.”
How to get involved: NHS membership is application-based. Students are encouraged to maintain strong academics and stay involved in service activities.
DECA: Preparing Future Leaders
DECA is a student organisation that prepares members for careers in business, marketing, finance, hospitality, and entrepreneurship. Through competitive events, leadership development, and real-world scenarios, DECA equips students with practical skills they can use far beyond high school.
Officer Team:
- President: Ashmith Yaramada
- VP of Leadership: Pragya Verma
- VP of Marketing: Marella Batu
- VP of Leadership: Deetya Cheerka
- VP of Competition: Sanna Susarla
DECA members consistently highlight how the organisation builds confidence, improves public speaking, and strengthens teamwork skills. Competing at regional, state, and international levels allows students to challenge themselves while representing their school with professionalism and pride.

“DECA pushes students outside their comfort zones and helps them grow into confident leaders,” President Ashmith Yaramada said. “Through competitions, leadership roles, and real-world experiences, members gain skills that prepare them for success beyond the classroom.”
The club’s impact is seen in its strong sense of community, emphasis on leadership, and preparation of students for future academic and career success.
“From competition to leadership conferences, DECA gives members real-world experience they can carry into the future,” VP of Leadership Pragya said. “These opportunities help students build confidence and develop professional skills.”
How to get involved: DECA is open to all students; no prior business experience is required. There is a tryout process for the competition due to limited spots.
Whether through sports, service, or competition, Pickleball Club, NHS, and DECA each provide unique opportunities for students to grow as leaders and individuals. These clubs demonstrate how involvement beyond the classroom can shape confidence, skills, and lifelong connections, making them an essential part of the school community.
