Students in AP English Language & Composition (AP Lang) are getting a head start in preparing for college. Most students who take AP Lang are juniors, and in the last two weeks of school, their teachers have assigned tasks such as creating a resume and crafting a cover letter, which will be useful for future applications. Additionally, they have begun brainstorming ideas for their college essays. This process encourages them to engage in deep self-reflection and explore their identities in response to the prompts from the colleges they wish to attend. Initially, these students get a glimpse of what the college application process entails, but they will later discover how beneficial this preparation will be as they transition into their senior year over the summer.
“It is very time-consuming, and if you don’t plan it out well, you might end up straining yourself and not knowing what to write about,” said junior Osi Chukwu. “I am glad that we are doing it now because it helps us reflect on who we are and how we can best convey that in our college essays.”
