John Champe High School is reducing the educational school day to half a day on Thursday, June 12. The administration is doing this due to the class of 2025 graduating later that night in EagleBank Arena at George Mason University. Students are using this time to prepare for graduation, some are using this time to get ready, pick out their outfits, take pictures, etc. However, teachers have a different plan for the other half of the day. Teachers are tasked to clean up their classrooms before the end of the year, take all their pictures/posters off the wall, and label all their furniture for the summer. This can be a daunting task, but staff are utilizing this time without distractions in the building to complete these items on their checklist before the end of the year.
“I don’t have to leave school because I don’t have to arrive at EagleBank Arena until later,” S.W.I.S.S. Teacher Shelley Canonico said. “I’m using this time to get my room situated without the students for fewer distractions.”
