Orthodox Easter, also called Pascha, is the biggest holiday for Orthodox Christians, celebrating when Jesus rose from the dead. Most years, it’s on a different day than Catholic Easter because the churches use different calendars. But this year, both were on the same day, which was pretty special for many students at John Champe who celebrated. Some students went to midnight church services, greeted each other with “Christ is Risen,” and cracked red eggs that represent new life. It’s a time that brings faith, family, and culture together—even during a busy school year.
“Midnight service is always the best part of Easter,” sophomore Shady Antonious said. “It is so fun staying up with my friends and family and then coming home and breaking eggs with my siblings.”
