The National Cherry Blossom Festival is in Season from Mar. 20 to Apr. 13 this year in Washignton, D.C. The history of the event goes back to the year 1912, as cherry blossoms were a gift from Helen Herron Taft and the Viscountess Chinda, wife of the Japanese Ambassador, who planted two Yoshino cherry trees on the northern bank of the Tidal Basin. Now, the event spans four weeks throughout D.C., as well as certain areas in Maryland and Virginia.
Senior Juliann Regi went recently and had a great experience. “Seeing the cherry blossoms in D.C. over the weekend was a great experience,” Regi exclaimed. “The trees were in full bloom, making the Tidal Basin full with soft pink and white petals,” Regi added. “Seeing the families and children enjoying the cherry blossoms made the experience even more heartwarming,” Regi mentioned. “Exploring the city with friends, taking pictures under the cherry blossoms, and finding new spots made it an unforgettable day,” Regi concluded.
Residents and visitors all over America are invited to visit the spring in Washington, D.C., with several events and Cherry Blossom-themed restaurants, art installations, and more.
