The month of April starts on April Fool’s Day, and is also the first Senior Skip Day of the year. The planning was not initially intended for the skip day to fall on Apr. 1, however conflict with planning regarding the spring showcase and mini pep rally caused SCA to move the unofficial date form Mar. 28 to Apr. 1. Since all LCPS students did not have school on Monday, Mar. 31, for a religious holiday, seniors have extended their days off to have a four day weekend. The month of April itself has many holidays, teacher work days, and spring break, so LCPS students in general will be having many long weekends and and entire week off leading into testing season in May.
There was some complaint from the date change for Senior Skip Day, however, as SCA had initially given seniors a choice between two dates, both of which were not Apr. 1. Senior Sarah Pasha speaks on why this was upsetting, “[SCA] gave us two options, and when March 28 got voted for, people made plans for that date in advance,” Pasha said. “I was going to see the cherry blossoms in D.C. with some friends, but they switched the date.”
Many athletes also have games this Tuesday, and have to attend school in order to be able to participate. There was definitely some seniors upset with the date, however there looks to be more Senior Skip Days to be had before the school year ends.
