On Monday, Mar. 24, 2025, John Champe High School staff and faculty were evacuated to the football field during the last block. An email was sent out to parents shortly before at 3:56 pm, explaining these events and what caused it. A bomb threat was made against the school and shortly after, the evacuation occurred. At 4:36 pm, an administrator came over the football field speaker systems to issue dismissal instructions, starting with the dismissal of those that ride bus 953 to go to the ticket booth. Following this, other buses were dismissed. Hours later, the school was declared safe by law enforcement, and the school would be open from 6:30-8:00 pm for students to pick up their belongings they left behind like backpacks, cell phones and keys. School resumed the following day at the normal time.
”These drills are only meant to be once every two years and we already had one this year, so that means this is a real bomb threat,” junior Iyo Legaspi said. “It’s a little worrying. They’re locking down the entrances so no one can drive in.”
