On the evening of Mar. 28th, 2025, John Champe High School will host various shows, art galleries and other performances to showcase the arts at Champe. Students have been working on these projects for months, and they get a chance to present their talents this Friday. All of these events are open to the public.
The night starts with the JCHS Cluster Art Show from 6-7:30 PM. March is nationally recognized as Youth Art Month, so the art show will feature the artwork of students from nearby elementary and middle schools in addition to the work of Champe students. The JCHS National Art Honor Society (NAHS) will host the art show in the cafeteria, and admission is free.
“The club has been meeting every other Tuesday to have volunteers sign up to set up and take down things for the event,” Champe NAHS president Alex Valdes said. “There will be about 50+ pieces, and it is a walk-in gallery.”
During the art show, the Champe Indoor Drumline and Indoor Color Guard will have their annual friends and family performances. Each group will perform their show twice in preparation for the Atlantic Indoor Championships in Hampton, VA this weekend. Performances will be held in the Main Gym and are each around seven minutes long. Admission is free and the performances start at 6 PM.
At 7 PM, the Champe Avalon Theatre will be putting on their production of Xanadu Jr. in the Auditorium. Xanadu Jr. is based on the 1980 American musical fantasy starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. The electrifying musical follows the journey of a Greek muse who is on a quest to inspire a struggling artist to achieve the first Roller Disco. This is the only paid event, as admission is $5 for students and $10 for adults.
