Kaelen Tucker, junior at Brookville High School, was assaulted with a baton during the Virginia Class 3A State track meet. As Tucker passed her opponent, Alalia Everett held up her baton and swung across the back of her head. Tucker has been diagnosed with a concussion and a possible head fracture. Everett claims it was an accident, while many on social media continue to berate her for her actions. The video has gone viral, racking up millions of views from people in disbelief. Different angles have been discovered, but the reason for why she hit her has not been revealed. No apology has been released yet from Everett, although she was interviewed to talk about her mental health and how the situation has affected her. Everett is now being charged with assault and battery, and the case will continue to progress with the help of social media.
“After a couple times of hitting her, my baton got stuck behind her back like this,” Everett said. “It rolled up her back. I lost my balance and when I pumped my arms again, she got hit.”
