This month, JCHS counselors have been working hard to help students select their courses, but what really goes into this process. Counselors started in mid Feb. with helping rising seniors plan their final year at Champe. They have now moved on to rising Juniors and will end in March with the rising Sophomores. This year, counselors implemented the use of SchooLinks in their process. SchooLinks is used to make a plan for a student’s entire high school career. With this being the first year of implementation, the site has been a bit buggy. Although it is helpful to counselors for applying to colleges, it isn’t so much with course planning. It gets core classes and electives confused and is a little confusing to use. Even with the bugs in the system, SchooLinks makes choosing courses quicker and easier. The last day to finalize course selections is Apr. 1, 2025.
“We look at what the student needs to graduate based on their diploma. We’re constantly making sure everyone has the right amount of credits.” counselor Laura Thompson said. “We give everyone a transcript so they can see what colleges or what different jobs we can look at as they graduate.”
