Loudoun County works to provide outlets for those who may not be able to speak English through two programs: the LCPS EL Family Workshops and DEL FACE. The Division of English Learners, Family and Community Engagement (DEL FACE) creates workshops designed to provide a brief orientation to new EL families about the U.S. School System and LCPS. All sessions are held at the Historic Douglas High School in Leesburg from 6:30-8pm on the following upcoming Thursdays: April 3rd, May 1st, and June 5th. In addition, there are also sessions provided to new international families for a virtual welcome to the LCPS Family Workshop Program. The virtual informative session includes information about LCPS and the U.S. school system, as well as, a toolkit to support students’ transition to LCPS. The next meeting date is being held online on Thursday, March 6th from 6:30-7:30pm. These sessions will be available in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Farsi/Dari. To register, families can fill out the Google form linked in the Knightly Newsletter.
“Coming into this school year already knowing English was very helpful and it helped me adapt easier to everyday life compared to France,” junior exchange student Alba Morio Gandolfo said. “I know many students who have done this when their English was weak like mine was originally and really benefited from it.”
