On Feb. 17, 2025, a Delta Connection flight crash-landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
Unfortunately, this incident marks the seventh plane-related accident involving U.S. airlines in three weeks. The plane involved was a Bombardier CRJ900 operated by Endeavor Air, which was heading from Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport when it hit the runway hard, overturned, and unexpectedly caught fire. Fortunately, reports say all the passengers on board—the 76 passengers and four crew members—were safe, but 21 suffered injuries with three in critical condition. The emergency teams on site responded quickly, evacuating the passengers and putting out the fire before it could spread and do further damage. According to Delta Air Lines, they are offering each passenger $30,000 as compensation, making it clear that accepting this payment does not limit their right to pursue legal action, as the airline is committed to supporting those affected and is actively working with investigators. Additionally, initial reports say that adverse weather conditions may have played a role. Until then, investigators will review flight data, crew actions, and the aircraft’s condition to determine the factors that led to the accident.
“It’s very fortunate that there were no deaths, however this crash was very unexpected to happen in the first place,” freshman Anish Dasbiswas said. “I feel like airlines need to survey conditions more carefully, seeing as there are more airline crashes happening frequently.”
