The Palisades fire in Los Angeles continues to cause problems for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). In a short span of time, the fire has already been declared the most destructive wildfire in LA history. The fire has been able to spread due to the dry conditions California is currently facing due to a drought and is being aided by the Santa Ana winds which help them spread. The LAFD continues to struggle against the fire due to past budget cuts and a limited amount of resources at their disposal. Celebrities like Jay Leno and Paris Hilton, whose house burned down in the fire, have donated to relief efforts in the area.
“I think it’s pretty tragic what’s happening over there,” junior Abdul Zaman said. “Many people have died, people have lost their homes also. And I feel like we should all make a refugee thing for them and donate money to California”. As the Palisade Fire continues, a mandatory evacuation continues to be put in place in order to keep locals out of harm’s way.
