Jimmy Earl Carter Jr. was the 39th U.S. President of the United States, an American politician, humanitarian, and winner of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize. He served his presidential term from 1977 to 1981. In addition, Carter served as the 76th governer of Georgia from 1971 to 1975 and in the Georgia State Senate from 1963 to 1967. He was born on Oct. 1, 1924, and passed away this past month on Dec. 29, 2024 at 100 years old in Atlanta, Georgia. He died peacefully in his Georgia home surrounded by family, he is now longest-lived president in U.S. history. There will be public observances in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., followed by a private interment in Plains, Georgia. The final arrangements for President Carter’s state funeral, including all public events and motorcade routes, are still pending.
“I know that many people tuned in and were very touched by the funeral service being broadcasted,” junior Pragya Verma said. “Through all his accomplishments through his 100 years, he touched many people’s hearts in many different ways.”
