After creating eleven eras throughout her rising career, Taylor Swift has brought them all together to create a three and a half hour long show called the Eras Tour.
The Eras Tour was performed from March 17, 2022 all the way until December 8, 2024. The length of this tour was directly influenced by its high demand as fans from all over the world wanted to attend the concert. The show has been extended over 20 times throughout the year, leading to a total of 152 shows. The addition of more tour dates allowed for people who could not attend the show on the original dates to be accommodated.
“I went to Taylor Swift’s concert on night 2 of Pittsburg,” junior Rosalina Rodriguez-Tecu said. “My favorite moment was when she played the song, AntiHero. I didn’t know a lot of her music before I went, but it was still really fun even for people who didn’t know her music. I especially enjoyed it because it was the first concert I’ve ever been to and her many costumes were amazing to see. For me it was, and still is, an unforgettable experience.”
Due to its popularity, the Eras Tour was performed in over five continents and 100 countries. Swift gave fans worldwide the ability to visit the show, after making tour locations international. Despite this, multiple cities and countries were continuously added, making the Eras Tour last much longer than planned. Its monthly expansion made fans overjoyed as many more families were able to attend.
“I went to the Eras Tour in Pennsylvania,” junior Sarah Abdulkareem said. “It was the best night of my life and I would not be able to attend if it was any further from home.
To keep it interesting, Swift made the decision to occasionally change the song list, and add surprise tracks to every show. Surprise songs were only uncovered during the actual show, so fans had something exciting to look forward to. The Eras Tour also contained many mashup songs created by taking two or more songs and singing them as one. This was a great way to incorporate more songs into the show, since many of them had to be cut out due to the time limit. This also allowed Swift to add songs from her new albums that came out during the tour, such as The Torchured Poets Department and 1989 Taylor’s Version.
“‘Cowboy Like Me x You Are In Love’” is the best of Taylor’s mashups,” senior Tima Saasaa said. “Even though Cowboy Like Me and You Are In Love are from two contrasting albums with completely different themes, this mashup mixes them together in a unique way. Cowboy Like Me is one of my favorites, and is more of a melancholic song, explaining the uncertainty of love, while you are in love is a brighter love song. This mashup is a perfect way to show Taylor’s musical versatility, making it an unforgettable mashup.”
Unfortunately, the magic of the Eras Tour could not prevent the numerous accidents that happened during the tour. Hot weather and high energy lead to many injuries during the show. At the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro performance, Ana Benevides suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away due to the hot weather. Similarly, another girl named Sophie fainted during the show in London. All of these accidents lead Taylor Swift to personally apologize for each incident and delay future shows in mourning.
“I have heard about a few very unfortunate deaths and accidents that have occurred at the eras tour,” junior Nora Hattabaugh said. “I think Taylor has handled these sorts of incidents very well, I have seen videos of her pointing out injured audience members to security and personally giving her condolences to families of those who passed from these accidents.”
The Eras Tour has caused more than one small earthquake. The Seattle show reportedly caused activity relating to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake. Another show in L.A had enough movement to cause a similar small earthquake. These disturbances were named Swift-quakes by the media and Taylor Swift fans.
“When I went to the Eras tour I did not experience the Swift-quake, but one of my friends did,” Abdulkareem said. “I wish we went to the same show, so I could share that excitement with her.”
Many people have experienced this phenomenon called post concert amnesia where they couldn’t remember most of the show the next day. This is due to the extreme overstimulation and excitement during the concert.
“After the concert in Florida, I experienced a slight amnesia where I couldn’t really remember details that happened during the show,” Abdullkareem said. “Fortunately, after looking at all the videos I took, I got to remember the best concert of my life.”
