It’s that time of year again where our John Champe High School seniors are completing college applications. College is the next step for most students after they graduate high school.
“Since I am applying to 10 schools there’s a lot of supplements that I have to write that are separate from my regular common APP essay,” senior Angela Lin said. “I chose Virginia Tech, Purdue University, and North Carolina State because of their excellent engineering programs.”
Students like Lin do countless hours of background research on each college they are interested in to make sure it is the right one for them. Lin said she wants to pursue engineering and apply to colleges and universities that are known for their engineering programs.
“I was really stressed about this whole process, I tried to start my essays early on because I knew that my first idea wouldn’t necessarily be the idea that I go with,” senior Dorothy Agyekum said. “It is definitely interesting because you think you are gonna apply to these schools and find out that applying is a big process.”
Applying to colleges takes lots of time and dedication, students should want to make sure they are completely prepared for this next step in their life. Agyekum knows that the application process is very long and decided to get a head start to make sure she had enough time to complete every application to her dream schools. All students use an application called “Common App” to complete their essays. Students can also be a little shocked when they first start applying and find out that it takes lots of hard work.
“This process is definitely stressful and I think a lot of other seniors can relate,” senior Thi Phung said. “I feel like within the past three years of high school all my accumulated experience has helped me choose a topic of what I decide to write for my essay.”
Seniors feel that the college application process is stressful especially when it is packed on top of their sports and classwork. There can be a lot of assignments you need to complete to be able to apply. Seniors need to have good time management techniques. From getting a head start to making a well detailed schedule, students need to make sure they are not abandoning one thing to complete another.
Seniors also say that you should be patient with writing and thinking of an idea for their essay. Seniors at John Champe High School say that the college application process is tedious and a lot of work. Choosing their topics for their essay’s and making sure that they meet the application deadline.
Students are also struggling to make their high school transcripts lengthy. Getting into college is an achievement that a lot of high school students would like to achieve but it may be harder than you thought.
“College can be scary and stressful,” senior Angela Lin said. “I want to make sure I do my best.”
