Jocelyn Long acting out Josephine on Wednesday night. Jocelyn and her cast have been rehearshing since the second week of September.
This year, the Excalibur competition team has decided on Rue as their piece to compete with at VHSL and VTF. The story of Rue takes place in a Louisiana swamp. 16-year-old Josephine struggles with intense anxiety following the disappearance of her parents. Jocelyn Long stars as Josephine; she plays the role with passion and emotion, as does the rest of the cast.
“Competing with theater is hard. We have to meet certain time limits and still get our story out,” librarian Sarah Anderson said. “Sometimes, it’s a challenge to cut down on things, especially right before we compete, but we still get our story across with full emotion.”
