John Champe’s new library will open on Thursday, Oct. 24th, after almost a year of being shut down. Champe had changed the location of the library and the front office for security purposes, which caused many changes in the original library layout. In order to debrief students on these changes and the new expectations, the librarians conducted presentations during students’ study hall blocks. The presentation went over how students were expected to come to the library, stating the importance of having a pass and coming during the appropriate times. It also gave students a new look into the library, and what new features were being added. The library includes makerspace, a meal area, and a green screen for any filming. One of the biggest changes mentioned in the presentation was the adaptation of the phone policy. Now students were expected to lock up their phones at the entrance of the library, and they were only allowed to get it back when they left. The presentations ended of with a quick quiz that all students needed to take if they wanted to come to the library in study hall.
“Honestly, it changed so much from last year, and there’s less space than what it used to have,” junior Priyanka Patel said. “So it’s understandable that the rules are stricter than last year too.”
