Parts of the southeast coast have been heavily affected and destroyed by Hurricane Helene over the past few days since Sept. 27th, 2024. Roughly over 40 trillion gallons of rainfall from the hurricane have brought severe leftover damage, causing buildings, roads, and neighborhoods to be completely flooded and wrecked. Local evacuation orders have been issued for residents within these parts of the southeast coast, such as Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee. The aftermath of Hurricane Helene has overwhelmed and impoverished these residents with scarce amounts of supplies like food and water. The catastrophic effects of Helene have not only affected states like the Carolinas and Georgia, but also Virginia and the country as a whole who have families that were affected.
“I have family in North Carolina and I’m worried for them after hearing about the hurricane,” junior Chilu Ngandwe said. “We haven’t had contact with them, but they sent our family videos of their situation and I pray the best for their safety.”
As of Oct. 2nd, 2024, the death toll has gone above 160 and government officials continue to be on strict weather watch in case another hurricane strikes again.
