This school year, governor of Virginia, Levar Stoney, made a new cell phone policy regarding all schools in Virginia. They are now to be placed in a bucket and turned off during class time. The Virginia Department of Education is now recommending that cell phones should be locked away during school hours completely from bell to bell, starting January 1st of next year. They wish to make the most of school days and feel phones are a distraction for students.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea because there can be so many good things that can happen while that policy is a thing” senior Jason Baah said. “[No cell phones in classes] I get, but [no cell phones in the hallways] is too much.
Students are not happy with the new potential policy, however the school board and teachers believe it can be beneficial.
