On Wednesday, June 5th, an unforeseen announcement was made stating that a pep rally would be held the next day, Thursday, June 6th. The theme was “white-out” for all students regardless of class, and any additional information about the pep rally was limited. However, it was known that there would be some assembly that would recognize the multiple spring sports and athletes that have made it far along in the postseason, including Outdoor Track, Softball, and Girls’ Soccer. This generated excitement among students, but created scheduling issues as some tests and finals had to be pushed back to next week.
On the day of the pep rally, an altered bell schedule was sent out during 5th block. Classes had been significantly shortened, and the pep rally would be hosted around 2:20 PM, lasting only about 40 minutes. The pep rally wasn’t a traditional one with games and class rivalries but was rather an event for the entire school to celebrate the teams that have competed (or are currently competing) for the first state title in school history. A spotlight was put on the Girls’ Soccer team, which is set to play in the State Semifinals on Friday, June 7th against Jamestown.
“Best wishes for our Girls’ Soccer Team as they head to the State Semi-Finals tomorrow,” a John Champe High School administrator said in a tweet on Thursday, attaching a picture of the team that was taken at the end of the pep rally.
