Memorial Day is held each year on the last Monday of May to honor soldiers who died in the American Civil War. Americans tend to observe this holiday by visiting cemeteries, participating in parades, and honoring relatives. Special ceremonies, held by current soldiers, are also part of Memorial Day. Memorial Day weekend was given the name for the day off from school the holiday grants, creating a three-day weekend. Families and students tend to use this time to travel and visit family. Champe gave a special shout-out to our fallen soldiers on their morning announcements as well.
“Most of my family are in the military, so we understand the importance of Memorial Day,” said sophomore Nora Hattabaugh. “We even celebrated this memorial day by heading to the Vietnam war memorial in D.C.”
