
Principal Kevin Tyson, was with John Champe High School for over 6 years, beginning in 2018. He has undeniably changed the trajectory of the school and its culture. From his catchphrases to his policies, Tyson was the face of John Champe High School for years. Yet, on March 31st, 2024 in a sudden email, Tyson announced his mid-year departure from John Champe and his new role as Supervising Principal for all of Loudoun County.
“It was really shocking,” senior Piyusha Kolli said. “No one expected this to happen in the middle of the year.”
The new role that Tyson has accepted began on April 5th, 2024. This role of supervising principal, includes a variety of duties and responsibilities that overall are meant to help the principals of Loudoun County to thrive in their respite roles. With 98 schools in the county, there are 98 different principals who need to be able to not only run their schools, but be a supportive boss for their admin teams and staff.
“I had a great time at Champe,” Tyson said, “but this new journey is super exciting for me and my family.”
In his new role, Tyson will be up at the admin building in Ashburn working to provide effective training and mitigation for all of the principals in Loudoun County. In his official resignation announcement email, he stated that he will be ‘working alongside the director of high school education’. This role of executive principal is being turned over from Andrew Davis, who filled the role for 8 years prior.
“We are all gonna miss Tyson a lot,” freshman Kassidy Wolf said. “He was always really supportive of the sports teams and everything else.”
The John Champe students had a farewell walk for Tyson on April 4th, before his last day as Principal on April 5th. During this walk, he was able to be cheered for and recognized as a memorable principal for the John Champe community who will have lasting effects on the future of the school.
The John Champe family is so proud of all that Principal Tyson has accomplished in his time at John Champe! He is wished nothing but the best as he embarks on new endeavors in his career.
