Champe athletic coaches visited Mercer Middle School on Friday, May 24th. The coaches brought some of their athletes to help recruit and spark interest in rising freshman. Some coaches bring nets and equipment to help show students what their sports entail. It’s a great event for sports that don’t have a lot of travel options for younger players. It gives rising freshman the opportunity to ask coaches and current players about sports and what season schedules could look like. Most coaches bring sign up sheets so students can participate in summer practices prior to tryouts.
“It was so nice meeting some of the riding freshman, teaching them a little bit about the sport,” Varsity Field Hockey player Lauren Boteler said. “Being able to play field hockey with them for the day was a lot of fun.”
