SOL’s, also known as the Standards of Learning, for champe students are all scheduled to be taken next week. Students are spending this week preparing themselves and reviewing all the material from this school year to make sure they are ready for their upcoming test. Most math SOL’s are scheduled to be taken on Monday next week and then following that, on Tuesday, students that need to take a science SOL would take that. Typically, freshmen are mandated to take an SOL no matter what math class they are taking that year. The following day, freshmen and some sophomores or juniors would be taking either their earth science or biology SOL. In case a student did not pass both of those SOL’s, they would be required to take a Chemistry SOL as either a sophomore or a junior. Monday will be on an altered schedule for all students. If a student isn’t taking either SOL, they will get to use their time for themselves. If a student isn’t taking a math SOL on monday, they will be given the opportunity to practice in a science studyhall and prepare for the SOL but if a student is taking both SOL’s they will not be given practice time and would be working on their math test instead. Students have been preparing themselves for their SOL’s all week inside and outside of school and are getting closer and closer to being ready to take their tests.
“I am not entirely sure about math classes but I know that the science teachers are working to prepare our students for their SOL’s,” Bio Teacher Kathryn Wester said. “We are using different applications and resources to help them review their material from the school year and are hoping to see some good scores this year!”
