John Champe High School went into a lockdown on May 8, 2024. This meant that no one could enter or exit the school nor could they go in the hallways. Students had to stay in their classes. Students could not access places such as the bathrooms, library, other classrooms, etc. The hold lasted for around 40 minutes. This hallway hold was because there was a mentally ill person who escaped the psych ward. The patient were near the proximity of John Champe High School and therefore the school went into a lockdown
“It was frustrating because I was anxious on waiting for my AP exam to start,” junior Swetha Bala said. “I was worried I wouldn’t have enough time to finish the test.”
The mentally ill patient was found later that day. Student’s went back to their regular actives.
