Millions of people in the U.S. and worldwide tuned in to watch Round One of the 2024 NFL Draft. Champe students were also tuned in to see who their team picked especially with such a talented class. An average audience of 12.1 million people watched the draft, the most since 2021. This year’s draft also surpassed 2021 with 34.3 million peak viewers watching their team pick a young star.
“We picked up a great player, Nabers is probably going to be the best player on our team already,” Junior Josh Asante said. “We really needed a Receiver and him coming to us is probably the best possible outcome.”
When asked about why the draft was watched by such a wide audience, Asante had this to say, “It’s mostly because of the star power of the top players, but also the NFL has reached a wider audience because of their international games in Germany and Mexico.” Asante is right, tickets were reportedly sold out in minutes for the Chiefs – Dolphins matchup in Germany. The NFL is still prioritizing reaching a wider audience with the reveal of them hosting a game in Madrid, Spain. With this wider audience, the next draft may get even more viewers than the last as the NFL is becoming more and more of a global sport.
