Champe Baseball has been underway with their season for a while, since late February, and after playing many games to get their team ready for the games that count, they begin their district play this week. All of the District games have been set towards the back end of the season, with the two games against each school set to be played in the same week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This schedule will continue until the postseason, if Champe makes it to play-offs. While this scheduling of playing the same school in the same week is something new for baseball (with softball also following along), it gives a chance for the team to really focus on strategy for a specific school and stay focused on the game plan.
This season has gained much momentum, as baseball has been having a more successful season than in previous years, and they hope to go further and make it to the postseason. As a senior player, Daniel Pack shares his opinions on the scheduling shift and what the rest of the season is predicted to look like, “I think that playing the same school in a week is good because we don’t have to face the same pitchers,” Pack said, “it will allow us to have an advantage against teams without pitching depth.”
Though district play starting this late and also the combination of the two games in the same week is something new, it should be approached with a positive mindset as it could really benefit the team in ways that Pack mentioned, and it also allowed for the team to play many games and get into the swing of things before they face the competition that counts.
