The re-emergence of rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s feud has led to a plethora of rappers attacking the Hip-Hop giant. With the release of Future and Metro Boomin’s joint album ‘We Don’t Trust You’, many subtle shots were taken at the Canadian rapper. None were more prolific or notable than that of Kendrick Lamar’s. With verses such as “F— the big three, it’s just big me”, Lamar self-proclaimed that he was the greatest rapper alive in the song. This was accompanied by fellow artists Future, Rick Ross, The Weeknd, and A$AP Rocky taunting Drake. Drake would then respond with his Diss ‘Drop and Give Me 50’ which in itself is a reference to Lamar having to give half of his earnings to his label. Drake also dissed Future, Metro Boomin, and even NBA star Ja Morant. Following the release of Drop and Give me 50, many fans of Hip-Hop chose sides between Kendrick and Drake in what most people are calling the Rap Civil War.
“To me Drake is the superior artist,” sophomore Fayez Raza said. “He has more hits and is more likeable. That’s why you’ll see more people siding with Drake, but also because he dropped a better Diss”. Raza has a point, in a poll of 25 students, 19 or 76% of them chose Drakes side which is mostly due to him being more popular. The following weeks will be very important to not only the Hip-Hop community but Champe students which is even more obvious after watching Sophomore Derek Sarpong’s youtube video of him critiquing and reviewing all Diss tracks.
