March Madness, a college basketball tournament run by the NCAA, started on March 17th, 2024, with Selection Sunday. This is when the NCAA committee selects which teams will participate in March Madness this year, and puts them in a bracket. The NCAA selects these teams based on seasonal performance, picking 68 of the best college basketball teams. The tournament itself is single-elimination. The First Four, which is what the broadcast of the first four games is called, occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday. The main controversy right now is that UVA was placed in the 68, and judges are saying that the placement was not deserved. CSU (Colorodo State) beat Virginia by a staggering margin of 20 points, which led to this discussion. After the First Four will be the first and second rounds. When asked if they will be watching, 16 out of a sample of 20 Champe students said that they are eager to watch March Madness.
“March Madness is a really exciting tournament,” junior Alex Hoang said. “I especially like the Warren Buffett challenge and try my best to win. I think the games are fun to watch and the bracket is a big bonus.”
