The 2024 Regional Science and Engineering Fair (RSEF) was hosted at Champe on Wednesday, March 20. The purpose of RSEF is to stimulate student interest in science, technology, and engineering (STEM). This science fair involved over 300 students that their schools selected to participate in RSEF. These students get the opportunity to engage in research in STEM fields and get public recognition from professionals in the STEM field. The projects were very diverse and many John Champe students competed. Projects from Champe students included research to filter aqueducts and their impact on nutrition, the effect of herbs on heartbeat and heart disease, and the psychology of worms and teaching them. Two Champe students, Ananya Gupta and Varun Cheedalla, representing the Academies of Loudoun won first place in the Mechanical Engineering category.
“We took ISR which is Independent Science Research,” a competitor in the behavioral sciences category senior Ritika Ananthoj said, “and were given the opportunity to compete in RSEF with our experiments in that class.”
