Jun Seba, musically known as Nujabes was a Japanese record producer, audio engineer, DJ, composer, and arranger talentedly known for his atmospheric albums taking samples from various genres, like hip hop, jazz, classical music, and soul. Many around the world describe him as the pioneer and father of lofi music. Lately, his music has resurged online, gaining attention across social media apps like TikTok and Instagram towards younger audiences who’ve fallen in love with it. Throughout his musical career, Nujabes contributed a significant impact which inspired millions of users online to immerse themselves into the musical art and sound of soul beats. Nujabes had collaborated with several other artists and rappers, including Shing02, Substantial, Cise Starr, Akin, Fat Jon, Force of Nature, MINMI, and MIDICRONICA to create euphoric musical experiences. Some of his famous works are shown in the popular Japanese anime Samurai Champloo (2004) as well as his albums: Modal Soul, FIRST COLLECTION, Luv(Sic) Hexalogy, and Spiritual State.
“I actually discovered Nujabes and his music through a friend who recommended him to me,” said freshman Ani Pys. “I started listening to his music on Youtube and instantly fell in love with his unique style which made me appreciate the beauty of music in a whole new way.”
Although Nujabes unfortunately died in a car accident on February 10, 2010, at 36 years old, his music continues to thrive and live among his fans.
