From March 1-3rd, the State Level Competition of DECA, otherwise known as SLC, was attended by select members of Champe’s club. Students were selected by performance on the District Level Competitions. On March 1st, the SLC students were transported to Holiday Inn at Virginia Beach and got situated. On March 2nd, students had to wake up at 5:30 to prepare for their respective competitions. The competitions themselves were held from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Virginia Beach convention center. Then, select students were chosen to be part of the election process for becoming Virginia state DECA officer. One student became the Vice President of Career Development of Virginia’s DECA. That student was Nripresh Dahal. In the evening, the first awards ceremony for the top ten roleplay and exam scores was held. On March 3rd, in the morning, the top eight qualifiers for ICDC, the International Character Development Conference, were chosen. The top three qualifiers of those top eight in the respective events received glass trophies which will go to the school. These students now have to prepare themselves for their events until April 25, 2024, where they will go to Anaheim, California. After that, the event was finished. While heading back, the bus for one group of the DECA students broke down. However, everyone on the bus got back safely.
“SLC was really exciting,” junior ICDC qualifier Aditya Kalva said, “but the job’s not finished, you know. We’re going all the way.”
