Previously, the supreme court had assumed that states could decide if they believed a presidential candidate was ineligible or not, however, that has come to an end. As of March 4, 2024, the Supreme Court has ruled that presidential candidate, Donald Trump cannot be removed off of voting ballots. Behind this major change, several states had recently removed Trump off of the primary ballot.
“In addition to ensuring that Trump remains on the ballot in Colorado, the decision will end similar cases that have arisen,” reporter for NBC News, Lawrence Hurley said. “So far, only two other states, Maine and Illinois, followed Colorado’s path. Like the Colorado ruling, both those decisions were put on hold.
After this decision, officials on the supreme court have changed their view of letting state officials have a say in ballot candidates, and instead only have congress take part.
