Senior Skip Day is an interesting day, as it is not a holiday off for seniors, but a day that some seniors designate to not go to school, or skip. While skipping school is something that is not encouraged, it is a long standing tradition in American high schools. Many already know where they are going to college once they graduate, so missing one day really isn’t the biggest deal to them. Senioritis is also a contributing factor as many seniors face a loss of motivation to complete work as they see assignments as something minor, since they have already gotten into college. The rest of the students at school can see emptier hallways and seats in their classrooms.
The day is almost seen as a “senior privilege” and is looked forward to as a fun day to remember during your senior year. One senior who participated shares her thoughts on this Monday, “I think the tradition is great and a fun way for seniors to have a day off,” Christie Katilius said. “I am planning on participating because I can, and why not?”
After all, it is just one day off, and it’s a chance for some students to have a long weekend after a busy third quarter so far.
