The Kansas City Chiefs have won Super Bowl LVIII after defeating the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, 22-25. The leading scorers on the Chiefs include star quarterback Patrick Mahomes with two touchdowns, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Mecole Hardman Jr. with one touchdown each. Both teams had a possession during overtime, as the rules for postseason football differs from regular season football.
“Even though I don’t really watch football, the Super Bowl is always fun,” junior Anna Wiley said. “I thought the Niners deserved to win, but the Chiefs pulled it off.”
This was the first Super Bowl for rookie quarterback Brock Purdy, who has just played two seasons since his debut for the Niners in 2022. Purdy was drafted by the Niners as the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft, giving the nickname “Mr. Irrelevant” to the 24 year old starter. In the end, Mahomes and his crew ended up being the better team as the game boiled down to a game-winning 3 yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to Hardman.
