After a successful districts meet this friday, Champe’s swim team finished with many awards and accomplishments. The boys and girls teams both placed 2nd out of 5 competitors. Many swimmers improved their scores with some even breaking school records. Cole Wergley, Cal Rice, Bi Nguyean, and Bryce Rohr set a new school record of 1:29.74 minutes for the Boys 200 Freestyle Relay. A total of 26 swimmers got qualified for districts.
It was a long week of tough training and constant practice. Despite not finishing 1st, everyone is extremely proud of themselves and their teammates. “Our team worked really hard and it showed,” freshman Leah Hattery said. “I’m proud of myself for getting up and trying my best and receiving the opportunity to go to district as well. I truly believe that in sports you never lose unless you lose your love and passion for what you do.” With their success, the team is continuing to regionals with a total of 18 swimmers.
