John Champe High School’s wrestling team has finally accomplished their long-term goal of advancing to regionals after winning their district championship last Saturday, February 2nd. The team competed against four other high schools and had ten wrestlers who qualified for a position. As a result, varsity wrestlers Isa Ghorbanni and Ramez Hana placed first, earning the district champion title. For second and third place, Aiden Nyguen, Kason Nelson, Omar Ebadi, Cyrus Estal, and Nate Gamble. Finally for fourth place, Derek Sarpong and Beshoy Tawardrous. Since the early beginnings of this team, head wrestling coach Joel Elmquist has had his mind set on completing this goal to set foot in regionals. They’re proud of their accomplishment as a team and are determined to fight stronger in regionals.
“I feel grateful for the fact that Allah allowed me to win,” senior Isa Ghorbanni said. “It’s my first time in the district finals and I’m hoping to win in the regionals.”
