Lunar New Year is a tradition dominantly celebrated in Chinese cultures, and marks the end of a lunar cycle. This widely known holiday commemorates the arrival of the Spring season and is held 15 days long. With the diverse student body, many Champe students celebrate this holiday and hope for more people to learn about it.
“Lunar new year is an important holiday to my family and it helps to remind us of our cultural traditions,” sophomore Jenny Zheng said. “To my Chinese-heritage, it is a gathering of family and non-family members to celebrate the day. In the end, we receive red envelopes of money from our elders, which is one of my favorite parts.”
This tradition holds a very significant cultural meaning to many families. To the families celebrating that live in the U.S., it cherishes this cultural celebration, and reminds them of the importance to keep it going. It is extremely valued and appreciated that many cultural holidays are given days off in schools like Champe, supporting the traditions of every culture.
