The North Carolina Department of Public Institution released guidelines for teachers and students on how to use Artificial Intelligence in schooling a week ago. This is important because it sets a precedent for the rest of the United States, and how they will tackle AI. In these guidelines, they state that AI literacy should be given to all students and teachers of all grades. The guidelines use a specific format called “The EVERY Framework,” to allow for proper usage. This framework says to evaluate the initial output to see if needs are met, then to verify any facts said in the prompt. After this, it says to edit the prompt to be more specific and revise the results. Finally, it reminds students and teachers that AI creations are the responsibility of the people who inputted those prompts. This book of guidelines is important because, with the guidelines working in one state, the rest of the United States may follow the same framework provided in the guidelines. The guidelines heavily emphasize the importance of not cheating with AI and the consequences of doing so.
“I think that this framework allows for a good future in AI,” sophomore Yash Seshadri said, “the importance of proper usage of AI cannot be understated. The application of AI can be great or malevolent, and teaching students that at a young age is important.”
