Following an initial four day ceasefire to bring a measure of calm to the area, exchange and release more hostages and prisoners, and allow more aid to the destroyed territory, Israel and Hamas have agreed to extended this ceasefire for two more days. This extension came after Israel agreed to extend the ceasefire by one day for every 10 hostages released, they also said for every 10 hostages they would release 30 Palestinians in Israeli prisons. The ceasefire marks the first stop in fighting since the war began on October 7, 2023, and many hope that it will continue to be extended until innocent civilians are safe and the proper aid is given to the struggling nation.
“I felt an overwhelming sense of happiness that just for a few days innocent palestinians would be able to breathe,” junior Nyla Ali said. “For these few days they have been able to live without the constant fear of losing their lives to bombs.”
“Realistically I feel as though the war will continue after the cease fire but I hope for the lives of palestinians that this war ends for good,” Ali said. “They deserve to live a safe life just as much as we do.”
