Sources of Strength is an organization of about 11 students who provide awareness to different issues like suicide prevention. They host activities at least twice a month to give students a small mental break during school. According to the Sources of Stretch wheel, they provide a variety of activities for students during lunch. Some activities relate to the holidays in that month, for example they held hand turkey and thanksgiving tree activities in November, and some are just relaxing activities like coloring. This allows students to be able to socialize with their peers in Sources of Strength, or their friends while doing something fun.
“I feel what sources of strength does is really put awareness to the importance of suicide prevention,” junior Aiden Gayles said. “We try to act as peer leaders to set an example and raise awareness for those who may be in need of help when they don’t know who or where to go.”
