Fields of Fear contains many attractions. One of the most popular rides is the Darkside Hayride. The Darkside Hayride has a truck with a stack of hay in the back to sit down. The truck would then drive through a trail where workers in scary costumes would startle the riders. Another ride at Fields of Fear is the Cornightmare, or the “Corn Maze” This experience consists of people in bunny costumes who would chase someone with a chainsaw. The third and final experience is the Haunted Forest Walk which has a pathway to walk through and a lot of jumpscares and loud sounds. All three experiences are considered to be extremely entertaining and scary.
“My favorite experience at fields of fear is the Cornightmare,” junior Nikil Jones said. “Walking through the corn maze and seeing all the scary creatures, rooms, and noises give a great scare. Going with friends makes the experience even better.”
A group of friends go through a barn in the Hayride. They’ve been excited for this ride ever since they bought tickets.

Although many people from JCHS go to fields of fear, one might assume how did this haunting tradition start? Fields of Fear slowly crept its way into John Champe tradition through very few students at first attending Fields of Fear. Soon they brought their friends, and their friends brought in more friends and the amount of people who went to Fields of Fear grew by a lot. Soon after, students started enjoying the experience and it’s because of the experience that the students stay interested in Fields of Fear. They would start attending annually throughout their high school years.
“I remember freshman year my friends asked me to come with them to a haunted event called Fields of Fear,” Kandi said. “Ever since that first visit, I’ve been going there every year.”
Many students from JCHS also go work at Fields of Fear during the month of October. During this time of year for Cox Farms, many students from different high schools come to work at Fields of Fear. Many students at Champe go to work there during this time of the year to get a chance to scare others and make a little bit of extra money during the Halloween season.
“I enjoy working at the Cox Farms festival because of my coworkers and the customers that I enjoy making happy,” junior Milan Mak said. “I’ve worked there for a while and the same attitude of the place never changed and always stayed positive.”
