On October 26th at Tuscarora High School, the John Champe varsity cheer team competed in the Virginia class 4 regional competition. The team achieved second place at the district competition last week at Woodgrove High School allowing them to move on to regionals. The competition was fierce at this event with impressive teams from Dominion High School, Tuscarora High School, Broad Run High School, Heritage High School, and Loudoun County High School. Despite the tough competition the girls performed excellently and hit zero, meaning they completed a perfect routine with no deductions. The fan involvement was exceptional with attendance from the Champe football team, field hockey team, administrators, and countless parents and family members. While the team didn’t achieve the result many were hoping for, placing 5th, this is just the beginning of the John Champe cheer program in class 4.
“The competition was super fun to watch,” field hockey player Abby Hardiman said. “It’s disappointing that we didn’t advance to states but I’m happy I got to support the team.”
High school cheer scoring is based on a few different kinds of criteria, one of which is crowd involvement. Make sure next cheer competition season you are making an effort to come out and support these very hardworking girls and coaches.
