As seniors continue start finishing up their college applications, it is important for them to ask questions and learn more about their top schools. John Champe, like most high schools, host admissions representatives from universities all over the country. Some of the schools that have already came to Champe include Mississippi State, University of Tennessee, University of Alabama, Northern Virginia Community College, Virginia Tech, and University of California Berkeley. With the wide variety of schools coming, students have the opportunity to learn about schools they may have not been interested in initially.
Charlotte Colley went to the Mississippi State meeting in September because she had already had interest in applying to southern schools. Charlotte says, “I wasn’t sure about Mississippi State and I knew nothing about it, however me and my friends all decided to apply after the meeting because the admissions representative sold us.”
When admission reps come their goal is to be informative and sell the school. Many students at Champe, especially students who are already have their top schools, find the college visits extremely beneficial and helpful to narrowing down their decisions. The meetings are not only beneficial to a students decisions but to their chances of getting in. When students go, whether it be junior or senior year, they are able to make a memorable impact on admissions reps. Many admissions reps remember and take note of the students who attend the meetings because usually those students have more interest in the school.
Students can sign up for the school visits on school links or can talk to Ms. King in the career center.
