Over the past 2 weeks, 8 fights have broken out between the new freshman and sophomores. As this sudden spike in fights has occurred, this has worried many concerned parents of students at John Champe.
“One of the things that I love about our school is that, for the most part, the students don’t fall into the negative stereotype and obstructive social media teachings,” Assistant Principal Solomon Wright stated. “Our students take the time to come here and work hard everyday, it is just sad that a select few individuals are trying to turn this school into a negative atmosphere.” John Champe prides themselves on having a positive outlook and safe environment for students to feel safe and comfortable. By having fights breakout and various hurtful messages being said in public creates a bad image about John Champe.
“We know the reasons for every altercation that has occurred and each issue was not serious to where a fight would have to break out; it could have been solved with a quick, civil talk,” Wright stated. “Because of the recent actions taken by freshman, consequences will be instituted in the future such as revoking recharge privileges to establish the rules that they have decided to disobey.” Speculation of freshman being excluded from homecoming has been surfaced and news of 8 new school resource officers being present at homecoming due to this incident has been revealed.
