On 10/27, the first grading period, or Quarter 1, ends. Late work is due a week before on 10/20. Many students are trying to rush in all their missing and late assignments before the deadline to avoid penalties to their grades. Grading is also a challenge as well, with teachers trying to put in assignments into the gradebook before the quarter ends.
“Grading at the end of the quarter is definitely more stressful because all the kids that are missing stuff are all of the sudden turning in a lot of things,” science teacher Sarah Kelly said. “On top of our regular things that we have to grade, we have, say, 10 other assignments that I have to go back and figure out how to grade.”
Teachers have to look at late work that’s been submitted before the 10/20 deadline and grade it using the same rubric that they might have assigned a while ago, which adds to the stress of putting in grades overall. The last week of the quarter is always stressful for teachers and students alike all across Loudoun County.
