During Dig Pink Week there are many events to support breast cancer awareness month. John Champe Football Team will verse Woodgrove on October 13th for the Dig Pink game. John Champe Volleyball will also hold a Dig Pink game against Parkview on October 12th. As a new event this year, The Walk for a Cure event is held after the PSATs on October 11th. During all of October, breast cancer awareness month is celebrated to acknowledge this disease and show support for people who are affected.
“Having the dig pink football game and the corresponding spirit day gets all the students involved by having them dress up to show their support,” Varsity Football player Tyler Ellis said. “There are lots of people that aren’t aware of how breast cancer can affect others and how many people are diagnosed with it every year.” More than 250,000 people die from breast cancer each year, as it is a very common and threatening disease. By wearing pink, we can honor breast cancer patients.
“Every year the Volleyball team is more than excited to wear all pink and bring people out to show how important breast cancer survivors and patients currently fighting the disease are,” JV Volleyball player Ruby Price said. “As well as expressing our support for survivors, we are sending our prayers and condolences to the many families that lose someone to breast cancer each year.” There are around 43,000 breast cancer patients that pass away each year, by dedicating events to this cause it can show families that are in distress that they are not alone.
