Last Sunday, nine students from John Champe were selected as awardees of CollegeBoard’s National Recognition program. The National Recognition Program recognizes Black, Indigenous, Latino and rural area students, and helps them stand out to universities and colleges. 72,000 students in total are recognized from all across the country, with eligibility for the award being based on GPA, PSAT/NMSQT scores and other measures of academic success.
“I was excited because it felt nice that my academic work during sophomore year paid off,” National African American Recognition Award recipient Dineen Merriweather said. ”I received a certificate from CollegeBoard, and I got a shoutout in the Knightly Newsletter.”
At Champe, five students received the National Hispanic Recognition Award and four received the National African American Recognition Award. Awardees receive a certificate that they can use in college and scholarship applications.
